Happy Valentine’s Day my love!
Here we are again, another revolution around the sun and I’m more in love than ever. I’m in love with those around me, my work, my passion and myself. It’s taken some time to get this place but what a great place to be! It’s also the fourth anniversary of this blog and traditionally the gift for the fourth year is fruit. So, I gift you the desire to eat a mango. If you know me, you know that’s true love! :)
Throw love around like confetti
I’ve come to see Valentine’s Day as not only a day of lovers but a day to express love in all ways. I love sending my best friends flowers, I take a little time out of the day to send messages and reminders of why people are important to me. I think we can get so bogged down (and a little jealous, it’s OK to admit that, lol) with all the emphasis on romantic love that we forget love has many connotations.
Give your mom some flowers, buy your dad a small gift, get manis with your cousin, get dinner with your bestie. You can send a bottle of bubbly to your neighbor or buy your co-worker a doughnut. Or you can scratch all that and save some coin because it costs nothing to be kind. Say a nice word, pay someone a compliment, hype someone up and support them.
Although it’s a day to show love to others, I think it’s equally important to show love to yourself. You are where your love flows from. If you don’t start without yourself, there is none to share. ALWAYS Be kind to yourself but especially today BECAUSE THIS DAY IS THE DAY OF LOVE AND THIS IS THE DAY TO REALLY LOVE YOURSELF UNABASHEDLY. Pay attention to the tone of your inner voice, IS IT BEING NICE TO YOU? Make sure to shower yourself with love, once you feel the love, it can only glow outward.
Mama Ru said it best: “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else!”
So remember to Treat Yoself.
